2008 Zinfandel

Absolutely classic. The aromatics of this Zin burst forward, with concentrated fresh boysenberry juice and hints of raspberry sorbet. Sweet pipe tobacco and vanilla scents add complexity. Mouth-coating dark fruits kick in, laced with allspice, clove and a dash of white pepper. On entry the wine is silky and juicy, with firm tannins supporting snappy Zin fruit expression. Ultra long finish. Drink now and through 2021.

Alcohol: 15.5% - Case production: 524

Barrels: 25% new French oak; 75% 2-4 year old, aged 22 months

Final Blend: 5% Estate Grenache & 4% Petite Sirah added

A food wine, par excellence. Lovely floral scents of wild rose and carnation combine with dusty blueberry, a vanilla-laced berry pie and yeasty dough aromas. Tar, pencil lead and a mineral component add complexity to the mouth-coating dark berry and black plum character at the wine’s core. Its elegant finish is framed by a nice bright acidity.  Drink now and through 2026.

Alcohol: 14.4% - Case production: 292

Barrels: 15% new French oak; 85% 2-4 year old, aged 18 months

Final Blend: 100% Estate Charbono

The Tofanelli and DiGiulio Ranch vineyards of Calistoga were founded in 1929 by our Italian immigrant grandfather, Sebastian DiGiulio and our grandmother, Irene DalPorto of St. Helena. Their old-world farming traditions continue today under the  hands-on guidance of their daughter, our mother, Pauline DiGiulio Tofanelli, pictured here.

OUR  WINEMAKING  PHILOSOPHY

California extraction - European elegance

All my life I have enjoyed wine with meals. Even as a child, my Italian grandmother would pour a little vino in my water glass at the lunch table. That early introduction, and later education as a winemaker (and wine drinker), has guided my hands to craft wines that  pair well with food.

In the Napa Valley we enjoy a climate that can give our wines incredible concentration (and if we are not careful, a one dimensional simplicity). My goal as winemaker is to bring a little restraint to the ‘table’ - to give you wines that not only taste good now but will complement your meals and age gracefully.

That being said, our wines show the best of two worlds; the extraction of intense flavors we all love with a layered  complexity that speaks of old world influence.

Enjoy!

  2009 Charbono
  2009 Petite Sirah

This blockbuster premier varietal brings seductive aromas of violets, sandalwood and cedar. Very juicy on the palate, with a silky entry loaded with teriyaki, cigar box, dark fruits, clove & nutmeg. This huge, complex wine with classic chewy tannins finishes long and chalky. Very serious for its youth. Drink now and through 2026.

Alcohol: 15.5% - Case production: 125

Barrels: 50% new French oak; 50% 2-4 year old, aged 17 months
